The Arrogance
Key art and poster designClient: Zoo Co Theatre
The Play
The View cinema is crumbling at the seams, head office is banging on the doors and the team are trapped inside not knowing which door to take. Meanwhile, a film - a very important reel of film - has gone missing.
Using live-film projection, puppetry and creative captioning, The View explores what to do when the place you love is on the brink of collapse and it feels like your only options are to hold on very tightly, or let go completely.
The Brief
The director of Zoo Co commissioned me to create the key artwork. The concept explores themes of self-discovery and incorporates typical cinema paraphernalia and iconography. Based on the idea of finding light at the end of the tunnel, newspaper and negative strips are collaged to create a vanishing tunnel effect, representing a camera lens and mirroring the characters’ journeys.
From story to cast, the play is hyperlocal. The title typography is reminiscent of the actual cinema in Croydon in which the play is set.
